Niranam Thrikkapaleeswaram Dakshinamurthy Temple stands between the Pampa and Manimala rivers at Niranam in Pathanamthitta district. It is a Shiva temple in the Dravidian style, where the god is worshipped as Dakshinamurthy, the teacher of all knowledge, in an east-facing sanctum. Folklore credits Parasurama with the idol, and it is one of three Thrikkapaleeswaram temples among Kerala's 108 Shiva temples, with Peralassery and Nadapuram.
A special feature is a separate shrine to the Saptamatas, the seven mother goddesses, represented south of the sanctum by seven sacrificial stones and given offerings morning, noon and evening. The linga is described as being of a stone found only in the Himalayas. The temple flourished in the time of the Niranam poets, three Panikkars of one family who were its devotees, and was later neglected until a deva prashna by Kanippayyur Shankaran Namboodiripad led to its revival.
