The story

Thazhoor Bhagavathy Kshetram is a Devi temple of about 300 years' standing on the banks of the Achankovil river at Vazhamuttom, Pathanamthitta district. The old shrine was completely rebuilt in 2020. Local folklore makes Thazhoor Bhagavathy the sister of Valamchuzhy Devi, and the temple is a popular place for weddings.

It is best known for folk arts. Padayani, an old folk tradition of song and dance, is performed here every year in Kumbham, drawing people from Vallicode, Pramadom and nearby villages, along with the kettukazhcha procession of bull and horse figures. Kumbham also begins the Paraezhunnellippu, which reaches Hindu households across the surrounding localities until Vishu in Medam. On the first of Kumbham, women in traditional dress make the pongala offering to the goddess with their bare hands.
