The story

St Elijah Orthodox Syrian Church at Koduvila, near Munroe Island in Kallada, Kollam district, is one of the old churches of the Malankara Orthodox Church. Its founder was Pulikkottil Joseph Mar Dionysius V, the Malankara Metropolitan. In its early years members worshipped at St Mary's Orthodox Valiyapalli in Kallada, crossing the Kallada River to attend the Holy Qurbana.

The foundation stone of the new church was laid on 13 September 2008, and its main door was installed a year later, on 13 September 2009; local people helped with the building, which blends ancient and modern architecture.
