The story

Also called Kumarakottam, this temple in Kanchipuram is dedicated to Murugan and stands between the Ekambareswarar Temple and the Kamakshi Amman Temple. Its position is read as uniting Shiva, Uma and their son Murugan. Besides the main deity, it has idols of Shiva, Vishnu and other gods.

The temple is linked to the Kanda Puranam written by Kachiappa Sivachariar. According to tradition, the manuscript was found beside Murugan's idol with corrections that had appeared overnight, which devotees took as the god's own approval of the text. Skanda Sashti is celebrated here in October and November, and Vaikasi Visakam in April and May.
