The story

Sri Soumyanatha Swamy Temple at Nandalur, in the Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh, is dedicated to Vishnu in his form as Soumyanatha. It is believed to have been built under the Chola dynasty, and it has been renovated and extended several times since. The temple sits close to the Kadapa–Renigunta highway, some kilometres short of Rajampet for those coming from Kadapa.

The complex follows the Dravidian style, with tall gopurams, broad courtyards, sculpted surfaces and several subsidiary shrines to other deities. In the garbhagriha stands the 7-foot image of Soumyanatha in a calm, gentle pose. The year's festivals include Vaikunta Ekadasi, Brahmotsavam, Garuda Seva, Rathotsavam, Chakrasnanam, Pushpa Yagam and Pavitrotsavam, and Dwajarohanam brings thousands of devotees, besides the regular poojas.
