The story

Penchalakona is a village in Rapur mandal of Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, about 70 km west of Nellore. It is known for the Penusila Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, set below a hill in the Penchalakona valley.

The image of the god is held to be self-manifested: it consists of two intertwined stones, a lion's head on a human body. According to the temple's legend, the place was the hermitage where the sage Kanva did penance. The main event of the year is a five-day festival in the month of Vaisakha, running from Suddha Dwadasi to Bahula Padyami, when devotees gather for Narasimha Jayanthi.
