01 — The story

The story

Sonsogor, also spelt Sonsogod, is the highest point in Goa, rising to 1,026 metres in the Western Ghats. The summit sits where three districts meet: Sattari taluka in North Goa, Khanapur taluka in Belagavi and Joida taluka in Uttara Kannada, the last two in Karnataka. Its slopes are part of the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary.

A Sonsogor trek joined the monsoon trekking programme of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation in July 2023, which advertised it with the tagline 'Go the Top of Goa'. The walk takes two to three hours, which makes the state's rooftop a manageable half-day outing during the rains for anyone wanting to stand on the highest ground in the state.
