The story

Sikandar Shah's Tomb, or Sikandar Shah Maqbara, stands at Halol near Vadodara. Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat built it in 1527 for his brothers and predecessors, chiefly Sikandar Shah, who was killed soon after taking the throne; a younger brother, Nasir Khan, briefly followed him before Bahadur Shah came to power. The chronicler Ferishta records that it was endowed for daily prayers for the dead princes.

The single-storey sandstone building rests on a plinth in the Ahmedabad style and once had two large central domes and five smaller ones. The central domes have fallen, but small fluted cupolas remain above the porches. Inside, two chambers carry floral and geometric carving; one holds a single grave marked by a low pillar.
