The story

Shatavar Vatika Herbal Park covers 125 acres on the Hisar-Dhansu road in Hisar, Haryana, 1 km north-east of Deer Park. Both are run by the state Forests Department. It is 6 km from Hisar Bus Stand and 7 km from Hisar Railway Station, and both Blue Bird Lake and Hisar Airport are close. Set up in 2008-09, it takes its name from the shatavar herb, Asparagus racemosus, and exists to preserve and propagate endangered ayurvedic plants, as well as to teach people and farmers how to grow them commercially.

The planting includes ashvagandha, sarpagandha, aloe vera, liquorice, brahmi booti, chitrak and rosha grass. For visitors there are lawns and swings for children, an observation watch tower, and an auditorium showing films on nature and the environment. A public hall and a collection of books on ayurveda, naturopathy and medicinal herbs complete the facilities.
