Sarthana is a protected green space in Surat that offers a break from the traffic and crowds of the city. Its grounds take in wooded areas, water and several distinct habitats, and the park presents itself as a place for wildlife watching and nature study.
Animals here range from tigers and leopards to deer and monkeys, while birdwatchers come for the avian species and botanists for the plant life. The park also has a conservation role: work here covers habitat restoration, monitoring of animals and programmes that involve the local community, with the aim of protecting endangered species.
