01 — The story

The story

This museum and planetarium is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, often called the Iron Man of India, who served as independent India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister and led the effort to bring the country together as one nation. The museum traces his life and work.

Its collection mixes rare photographs and Patel's personal belongings with documents and displays on the independence movement and the country's development after independence. Interactive galleries and multimedia presentations return again and again to the theme closest to Patel's work: the unity of a diverse country and the democratic values that hold it together.
