01 — The story

The story

Sangti Valley is a quiet river valley close to Dirang, drawing far fewer visitors than the better-known stops in the region. Green mountains, forest and farmland line the Sangti River, and light snow can fall in the colder months.

In November and December, black-necked cranes arrive from China; the Monpa people regard the birds as sacred. The valley also has small Buddhist monasteries, and the Sangti Valley Sheep Farm, a short drive from Dirang on the river's banks, shows sheep rearing at work. Several maintained campsites sit along the riverside.
