Ra Khengar Vav lies close to Koyliphatak village, on the stretch between Junagadh and Vanthali in Gujarat. Despite its name, it was not built by the Chudasama king Khengara, who ruled around 1098–1125. A biography of the minister Vastupala records that his brother Tejapala, of the Vaghela court, had a stepwell made on this route for the use of travellers, and the scholar Madhusudan Dhaky matched that account to this structure, placing it around 1230–1240. Its style supports the date.
The well runs north to south, with the flight of steps at the northern end and the well shaft at the southern end, ringed by a passage for walking around it. Carvings cover the pillars and walls, and balconies open on both sides at the first landing. The tiled-roof pavilion at the south end was added in the 19th century under Junagadh's Babi rulers. The stepwell is a State Protected Monument.
