The story

Purwa Falls is on the Tamsa river near Semariya in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh, close to Basavan Mama, which is both a sacred site and a tourist spot. The Tamsa rises from a pond in Maihar district and flows north across the Rewa Plateau.

At Purwa, as it descends through the plateau, the river plunges vertically for 70 metres. Geographers cite it as an example of a nick point, a sharp break in a river's long profile produced by rejuvenation, where the channel gradient suddenly steepens and the water is able to fall straight down.
