01 — The story

The story

Keoti Falls, sometimes spelt Kevti, lies in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh, about 46 kilometres from Rewa town at the edge of the Chitrakoot hills, part of the Kaimur range near Sirmour. It is formed by the Mahana river, a tributary of the Tamsa or Tons, as it drops off the Rewa Plateau.

The fall is a single, segmented drop with a total height of 98 metres, although the World Waterfall Database gives 130 metres, and it is counted as the 24th highest waterfall in India. Geographers treat it as a nick point: a sudden break in the slope of a river's course, caused by rejuvenation, which lets the water fall vertically instead of flowing on.
