The story

Punniyakodiyappar Temple is at Tiruvidaivasal, also called Tiruvaidaivai or Tiruidaivai, in Tiruvarur district. Shiva is worshipped as Punniyakodiyappar and Parvati as Abiramani. A sign near the Vennar bridge on the road from Koradacheri to Koothanallur marks the turning, and the temple lies about 2 km along it.

Its place in the Tevaram canon has an unusual history. Sambandar's hymn for this shrine was found only in 1917. Until then the Paadal Petra Sthalams, the temples praised in the hymns, were counted as 274; with this discovery the number rose to 275. The temple's sacred tree is the kasturi arali.
