The story

Peddintlamma Temple is a Hindu pilgrimage site on the shore of Kolleru Lake at Kolletikota, in the Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh. It dates from the 13th century, when an army general of the Eastern Ganga dynasty built it during the reign of King Narasingha Deva I.

Its legend goes back to a time when the Eastern Ganga kings, who ruled from Cuttack in Odisha, kept a fort at Kolletikota. Their enemy Muhammadin had set up camp at Chigurukota on the lakeshore. When fighting began, the Odia general is said to have offered his own daughter, Peddintlamma (also called Perrantalu), as a sacrifice to win the favour of the gods. After the Odia army prevailed, he raised this temple in her honour.
