The story

Pattupurackal Bhagavathy Temple in Njeezhoor village, Kottayam district, is a Bhadrakali temple thought to date to the 10th century CE, and the only temple in the village with Bhadrakali as its presiding deity. It lies about 6 km from Kuravilangad and 11 km from Kaduthuruthy, was last renovated in March 2016 and is managed by NSS Karayogam No. 336. Yakshi and Bhagavathy are worshipped as sub-deities.

On Tuesdays and Fridays devotees light lemon lamps and ghee lamps, an offering of special importance here. The annual festival in Meenam lasts 12 days, opening with Pongala, with each day sponsored by a family and an evening thalappoli procession that circles the temple three times. On the last morning a long procession with chenda drums, Theyyam, Mayilattam, Kumbakudam and an elephant bearing the deity's image arrives at noon, followed by a community feast, Mudiyettu at night and a closing guruthi puja.
