The Kidangoor Subramanya Swami Temple lies on the Manarcaud–Kidangoor road near the Meenachil river, in Kottayam district, a couple of kilometres outside Kidangoor and 5 km from Ayarkunnam. It is one of Kerala's well-known Subramanya temples and is estimated to be at least 1,500 years old. Kidangoor was one of the 64 Nambudiri villages, on the border of the Vadakkumkur and Thekkumkur kingdoms.
Legend says the idol of Subramanya spilled from the water pot of the sage Gauna and floated to the Vishnu shrine here. Vishnu, called Vadakkumthevar, is honoured equally, in a shrine north of the main sanctum believed to be older; Bhagavathi, Sastha and a Ganapathi temple built in 1995 complete the complex. The ten-day festival in Kumbham starts with the flag-raising on Karthika day, and the aarattu is held at the Chembilavu Ponkunnathu Mahadeva temple on the river. Thaipooyam and Skanda Shashti are also celebrated.
