Parthasarathy Temple is one of the oldest temples in Chennai and is dedicated to Vishnu. It is believed to have been built by the Pallavas in the 8th or 9th century AD, and its main shrine carries detailed carvings of scenes from Hindu mythology, along with an image of Vishnu in a reclining pose.
The temple is counted among the 108 Divya Desams, the holy abodes of Vishnu praised in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham of the Alvar saints, and Adi Shankaracharya is said to have visited it. Priests perform rituals daily, and the main festivals include Brahmotsavam, Panguni Uthiram and Vaikunta Ekadasi.
