01 — The story
The story
The Dr MGR Memorial House in Chennai honours Dr MGR, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who shaped the state's politics. The building, designed in the manner of Raj-era architecture, holds photographs, awards and personal possessions, among them the desk chair he used, his dining table and other household furniture.
A library and research centre keeps books, magazines and newspapers about his life and about the history of Tamil Nadu. A small theatre screens his classic films, and the house stages exhibitions, concerts and talks, including events on his anniversary. A garden, Dr MGR Memorial Park, lies next to the building.
