The story

Pandavula Gutta, also called Pandavula Guhalu, is an ancient geological site with caves near Kothapally village in Regonda mandal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, about 55 km from Warangal. It has been named Telangana's only geoheritage site, and Telangana Tourism and the forest department have developed the area for ecotourism. Myth holds that the Pandavas stayed here for a time during their exile.

Officials of the Archaeological Survey of India, K. Ramkrishna Rao and S. S. Rangacharyulu, found the caves in 1990. They are known for prehistoric rock art, including Palaeolithic paintings, and show signs of habitation from the Mesolithic period. The paintings depict bison, antelope and tigers, along with swastika symbols, circles, squares and ancient weapons. Inscriptions from the Rashtrakuta period are found alongside them.
