The story

Palashi Monument stands at Palashi, or Plassey, in Nadia district, West Bengal, marking the battle fought on 23 June 1757 between Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah and the East India Company forces under Robert Clive. A victory memorial was first set up here in 1883 and rebuilt in Lord Curzon's time; it is now protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.

The monument is on the bank of the Bhagirathi beside the Plassey Sugar Mill, in the area popularly called the Plassey Battlefield, although the river has since shifted and carried away part of the real battleground. A statue of Siraj ud-Daulah was added in 2007, 250 years after the battle; it was installed by Debabrata Biswas of the All India Forward Bloc on behalf of the India-Pakistan-Bangladesh People's Forum. Plassey railway station is 7 km away, and Kolkata roughly 150 km.
