Pabaneswara Shiva Temple lies in Bhubaneswar about 100 metres east of the Parashurameshvara Temple, on the left of the road to the Kedara Gauri temple. Formerly called the Daitesvara Shiva temple, it dates to the 10th century and enshrines a Shiva linga in a circular yonipitha; beyond that, little of its history is known. Houses and a market hem it in on three sides, with the road on the fourth.
The east-facing temple is a single grey sandstone structure in the Kalinga rekha style. It has been renovated throughout, with a second phase of building visible above the base, and its platform is now buried. The walls and side niches are plain, but the doorway shows Gajalakshmi seated on a lotus, a Shaivite guardian holding a trident, and a lintel carved with the nine planets, Ketu among them with a serpent's tail.
