The story

This Nizhal Thangal at Nelli-ninra Vilai is one of the more important Ayyavazhi places of worship in western Kanyakumari. It sits halfway along the road from Attoor to Arumanai, some 26 km north-west of Nagercoil and 4 km from Marthandam.

The original Thangal dates from 1882. Its replacement, built in a lotus style of architecture, was begun in 2004 and opened by Bala Prajapathi Adikalar in April 2006. The shrine is also counted as the very first Thangal of the Thamarai, or lotus, series.
