Marthandam CSI Church is among the largest district churches of the Church of South India's Kanyakumari diocese. It serves as the centre for many diocesan activities, from schools, colleges and hospitals to a press, a book depot, an embroidery industry and a shopping complex.
The church was the work of Rev. Robert Sinclair, a Scottish minister sent to India by the London Missionary Society, who came to Marthandam in 1920. Rev. C. G. Marshall laid the foundation stone on 26 July 1924, and Sinclair put his own labour into the building through the ten years it took to finish. It was dedicated on 13 May 1933.
