01 — The story

The story

Ningli Nallah is a river in the Kashmir Valley that runs between green hills and thick forest. Deodar trees line much of its course, and wildflowers grow on the grassy banks. Its quick current and rapids are used for white-water rafting, and anglers come for its fish, among them the snow trout. Hiking trails climb the hills on either side and look down over the valley.

The river changes markedly through the year. In spring, snowmelt swells the water and the banks fill with flowers; in summer the forests give shade; in autumn the leaves turn gold and the current runs calmer; and in winter the surrounding peaks and slopes lie under snow.
