The Kanchenjunga Museum in Gulmarg honours the achievements of Indian mountaineers, and its origins are tied to the High Altitude Warfare School set up there in 1969. Over time it has built up a large collection on the history of climbing in the Himalayas.
Displays include ice axes, crampons, oxygen masks and other survival equipment used at extreme altitude, together with photographs and artefacts from expeditions by Indian Army teams. Exhibits recount ascents of Kanchenjunga and describe how soldiers train for operations in severe mountain conditions. Snow-covered ranges and green meadows surround the building.
