Nava Brindavana, near Anegundi and Hampi, is the burial site of nine saints of the Madhva tradition, followers in the line of Sri Madhvacharya. Each saint rests in a brindavana, a raised shrine-tomb, and the nine are set in a ring with that of Vyasatirtha at the centre. The saints belonged to three monastic lineages, the Sripadaraja, Vyasaraja and Raghavendra mathas.
Local belief places the spot in Kishkindha, the monkey kingdom of Sugriva in the Ramayana, and holds that Rama foretold nine great saints from different ages would one day come together here in lasting meditation. A yellow line marks the sacred area, inside which visitors are asked to stay quiet. Those wishing to arrange sevas such as special prayers contact the Raghavendra Math in Anegundi beforehand.
