The story

Nardana Pureeswarar Temple stands at Thalayalangadu in Tiruvarur district and is dedicated to Shiva. Thirunavukkarasar, the Saivite saint also called Appar, sang in praise of the temple, and devotees believe that prayer to its deity can cure leprosy.

The site carries a memory of war as well as worship: it is believed that the Pandya ruler Nedunchezhiyan won a victory here over both the Chera and the Chola kings. Inside the complex are separate shrines to Vinayaka, Viswanatha, Murugan and Bhairava.
