The story

Nalukulangara Maha Devi Temple stands in Kuthiathode panchayat, Alappuzha district, about 1 km from Pattukulangara Junction, and is one of the prominent Devi temples of the district. Its goddess is Bhadrakali, known as Nalukulangara Amma, worshipped together with Shiva, Subrahmanya and Balabhadra, with outer shrines to Shiva, Murugan and Saraswathi.

The annual flag-hoisting festival falls in the month of Makaram and culminates in the Nalukulangara Pooram, held on Pooram day, which people celebrate regardless of religion. On the first of Vrischikam the temple holds a Pongala for women.
