The story

Nagin Lake is a calm stretch of water in Srinagar, set apart from the busier parts of the city and less visited than Dal Lake. Its waters and shores support a range of wildlife, from the Himalayan kingfisher to snow trout.

Traditional wooden houseboats line the lake and serve as homes and as places to stay. They are known for carved woodwork, embroidered furnishings and wall hangings, and many serve Kashmiri dishes such as rogan josh and gushtaba on deck. Shikara rides and quiet time on the water are the main ways to spend a visit.
