The story

Mizo Hlakungpui Mual lies on the edge of Khawbung village, roughly 265 km from Aizawl, and is dedicated to the poets and writers of the Mizo language. Work on the site began in 1983, and in 1986 the executive committee of the Khawbung branch of the YMA chose to honour two laureate poets; new monuments have been added every ten years since. Its name translates as 'the place of inspiration'.

To be included, a writer needs three or four published books and a lasting influence on Mizo literature, while poets qualify through songs or poems of special value; all must have died at least five years earlier. Stone megaliths carry inscribed verses, and the grounds also include an orchid park and a museum displaying the honourees' manuscripts and personal belongings.
