The story

Lianchhiari Lunglen Tlang is a cliff-edged ridge in Champhai district that looks out over the valleys and hills of eastern Mizoram, and at times as far as Myanmar. Mist often settles over the rock, and sunrise and sunset draw locals, visitors and photographers alike.

The ridge is named after Lianchhiari, daughter of Vanhnuaithanga, chief of Dungtlang, who fell for Chawngfianga, a young man of modest means. A jealous go-between sent to arrange the marriage wrecked the match, and Chawngfianga's family quietly moved to Chhingzawl, a village to the east. Heartbroken, Lianchhiari climbed to a narrow ledge and sat there for weeks looking towards his new home, eating nothing and composing sad love songs.
