The story

Mathur MMDA Park is a neighbourhood park in Mathur MMDA, North Chennai, near the bus terminal where 2nd Main Road meets 3rd Cross Street. The land was set aside for a park when the housing layout was planned in the early 1990s, but for years it served as a dumping ground. After the area joined the Greater Chennai Corporation in 2011 it was cleared, building began in 2012, and Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa opened the park by video link on 21 September 2016.

The 2.5-acre park has a skating rink, a play area, a warm-up arena, figure-of-eight walking paths, a pebble path and a meditation hall. It is counted among the ten largest parks in Chennai and the largest in the north of the city. The Madhavaram Botanical Garden and Mathur Lake are nearby.
