The story

Mannar Thrikkuratti Mahadeva Temple is an old Shiva temple by the Pampa river at Mannar in Alappuzha district. Shiva faces east in the main sanctum, and folklore says the sage Parashurama installed the idol, placing the temple among Kerala's 108 famous Shiva temples.

Tradition credits the building to King Maandhatha of the Ikshvaku, or solar, dynasty. Its massive compound wall is the subject of a local legend: a band of Shiva's attendant spirits, the bhootas, is believed to have built it in a single night.
