Mandangad Fort, also called Chitradurga Fort, lies about 2 km from Mandangad town in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. King Bhoj is said to have built it, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured it in fighting with Adil Shah.
There are three separate parts: Mandangad proper in the south, Parkot at the centre and Jamba in the north, whose reservoir is now dry. Although they are believed to be older, local legend credits them to Shivaji, Habshi of the Siddis and Kanhoji Angre respectively. Col. Kennedy took all three in 1818. A 400-year-old cannon is the main thing to see, along with a tank, Thorla Talav, and a Ganapati temple.
