01 — The story

The story

Mampuram Maqam, also called the Mampuram Mosque or Tharammal Masjid, is a mosque and dargah at Tirurangadi in Malappuram district. Built in the traditional Kerala-Islamic style, it was largely rebuilt in 2004 with that style kept intact.

Sayyid Alavi Thangal is buried in the dargah, which is a pilgrimage centre for Sunni Muslims in Kerala, drawing around 5,000 visitors a day. A Swalath Majlis is held every Thursday, and an Uroos is held each year over the first seven days of Muharram. The Kaliyattakkavu Devi Temple stands nearby, and the Thirurangadi Juma Masjid lies across the Kadalundipuzha River.
