The story

Jamiul Futuh, also called the Indian Grand Masjid or Shahre Mubarak Grand Mosque, stands in Markaz Knowledge City in Kozhikode district. Its founder was Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, Grand Mufti of India, and it opened in September 2022 and is the largest mosque in Kerala, holding up to 25,000 worshippers.

The design draws on Abbasid, Mughal, Moroccan and Ottoman architecture and follows green building principles. The site covers about nine acres, wrapped in a four-acre green belt, with a large garden on the roof. The building also houses the Grand Mufti's office, a library for research and a museum of cultural heritage. The mosque keeps a relic believed to be a hair of the Prophet Muhammad, which explains its popular name: shahre means hair and mubarak blessed.
