01 — The story

The story

Mahudi Jain Temple stands on the edge of Gandhinagar, close to the Sabarmati River. It is a white temple with fine carving in the Jain tradition, and its main deity is worshipped as a protector who grants wishes. Pilgrims pray here for peace, prosperity and the courage to face hardship, and the shrine is also well known for the sweet prasad handed out to visitors.

The temple draws thousands of pilgrims each year, and chanting and incense fill the sanctum during worship. Early morning and evening are the calmest times to visit. Buses and taxis run to Mahudi from Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.
