The Madhur Shree Madanantheshwara-Siddhivinayaka Temple stands on the bank of the Mogral river, known here as the Madhuvahini, 7 km from Kasaragod. Shiva as Madanantheshwara is the main deity, but Ganapathi, facing south in the same sanctum, receives more devotion. Lore says a woman named Madaru found a self-formed linga here, and that a Ganapathi drawn on the sanctum wall by a playing boy grew larger day by day, earning the name Bodda Ganesha. It counts among six ancient Ganapathi temples of Tulunadu. Tradition holds that Tipu Sultan meant to demolish it, changed his mind after drinking from the temple well, and left a single sword cut, still shown on the well building.
The temple has a three-tiered roof of the gajaprishta type, shaped like an elephant's back, and its lower walls carry wooden carvings of Ganesha in many poses and scenes from the Ramayana. Appa, a sweet offering, is made daily, and the Sahasrappa offers a thousand of them.
