01 — The story

The story

Lepchajagat is a small village in the hills of Darjeeling district, reached by winding mountain roads and surrounded by forest, meadows and high ridges. It draws travellers who want a quiet stay in clean air, away from the noise of the larger hill towns.

The village takes its name from the Lepchas, the indigenous people who have lived in this part of the hills since early times. Their heritage is still visible in the local houses with finely worked woodwork, and in the old rites performed for their deities to a particular rhythm. Around the settlement, pine woods scent the air and birdsong carries through the trees, making it a place for slow walks and a break from routine.
