The story

Kunti Betta, sometimes written Kunthi Betta, is a pair of rocky hills in Pandavapura, Mandya district, Karnataka, reaching 878 metres. They lie not far from Thonnur Lake and 130 km from Bangalore. Local legend says the Pandavas and their mother Kunti ended their exile here, which gave the town and the hills their names, betta being the Kannada word for hill. A temple at the foot is also linked with Kunti.

The hills are a popular trekking destination, known above all for night treks and camping. A less common name is French Rocks, recalling a regiment of French soldiers garrisoned here after helping Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan against the British.
