The story

Kokileswarar Temple at Tirukozhambiam is a Shiva temple on the banks of the Kaveri, administered by the Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam. Shiva is worshipped as Kokileswarar and his consort as Soundara Nayaki. Both Appar and Sambandar praised it, and it counts among the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams.

Two legends are told here. In one, a man named Chandan was cursed by Indra to be reborn as a kokila, a nightingale, and regained his own form by meditating on Shiva at this spot. In the other, a cow walking past trod on a lingam, and the marks of its hooves can still be seen on the lingam in the sanctum.
