The story

Kilimarathukavu Shiva Parvathy Temple stands at Kadakkal in Kollam district. An ancient temple is believed to have stood here and been destroyed, with only its idols left, and a new temple was built in the 21st century; the Travancore Devaswom Board took it over in 2011. Two Shiva images are worshipped, Shiva and Mahanadan, along with Dharma Sastha.

Legend says that here Shiva, disguised as a tribal hunter with Parvati as a tribal woman, met Arjuna as both shot an asura in the form of a boar. In the quarrel that followed Arjuna struck the hunter, until Parvati revealed who he was; Arjuna bowed down, received the Pashupatastra and was told that whoever prayed at this spot would be blessed, after which Shiva vanished and a linga appeared. Festivals include Maha Shivaratri in Kumbham, Navaratri in Kanni, Skanda Shashti in Thulam, Mandala–Makaravilakku in Vrischikam and Hanuman Jayanti in Medam.
