Karimpuzha Sree Ramaswamy Temple, also called Dakshina Ayodhya, stands in Palakkad district on the bank of the Karimpuzha, a major tributary of the Bharathapuzha. It once belonged to the Eralpad, the heir to the Zamorin of Kozhikode, who kept his kovilakam, or palace, at Karimpuzha.
Belief holds that Rama gave up his life here in the Karimpuzha, the river thus standing in for the Sarayu. Since Hanuman alone is said to have been with Rama in his final moments, a Hanuman image was later installed inside the temple as well. The temple is known for its particular offerings and pujas, and is ranked among the rare Mahakshetrams of Kerala.
