Kans Quila, also spelt Kans Kila, is a fortified castle in Mathura. The first clear reference to it comes from the 18th-century writer Narahara Chakravarti, who described the site as the ruins of the castle of Kansa. The present structure was built by Man Singh I, and Sawai Jai Singh (1699–1743) is said to have added an observatory to the complex, though that has since been pulled down.
Jats and Marathas both made use of the fort, which also served as a defence against floods. Under British rule it was neglected and partly demolished, and since then much of its walling has crumbled and the site has been encroached upon. Within the fort is an audience hall ringed by red sandstone pillars.
