The story

Kalo Dungar, the Black Hill, is the highest point in Kutch at 462 m above sea level. It lies about 97 km from Bhuj and 25 km from Khavda, and it is the only spot in Kutch with a wide view over the Great Rann, where the white salt flats contrast with the dark hills. An army post stands at the top because the Pakistan border is close, so access beyond it is restricted; on clear days the border can be seen.

The hill holds a Dattatreya temple about 400 years old. Legend says Dattatreya met starving jackals here and offered his own body, which kept renewing as they fed. Priests still cook food and feed jackals after the morning and evening aarti.
