The story

The Kalika Mata Temple stands near New Dhrewad in Devbhoomi Dwarka district, Gujarat. It dates from the Maitraka period in the 7th century and is one of two old temples by the village, the other being the Rajal Vejal Mata temple. The ASI lists it as a Monument of National Importance.

The east-facing temple has a square sanctum with an inner walkway around it, and its spire rises in five tiers of arched motifs that decrease from five to one, topped by a ribbed amalaka and a pot finial that may be later. Because of the form of its spire, the scholars M. A. Dhaky and Nanavati class it as a Vimanakara temple of the neo-Dravidian subtype. The closed mandapa has four central pillars and a window under a carved hood. The sanctum holds no presiding deity, though some idols have now been placed inside.
