The Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden lies on a mountainside in Srinagar, close to Chashma Shahi and the Roop Bhavani Temple. Named in honour of Jawaharlal Nehru, it was begun in 1969 and completed in 1987.
The collection runs to some 150,000 ornamental plants, along with many kinds of oak, and the lake in the grounds covers 17 hectares. The garden has four parts: a recreational garden, a botanical garden, a research section and a centre for introducing new plants. Visitors come here from many parts of the world.
